Rules 

Theme: Florida’s Native Flora & Fauna

  1. Open to all students in Marion County, grades K through 12, on an individual basis.
  2. Art size must not exceed 2’ x 2’ x 2’. Please note size limitations.
  3. Artwork should be easy to lift, move, and NOT be excessively heavy.
  4. Artwork must be an original, secure piece, and designed by the contestant.
  5. Artwork must incorporate and predominantly be made of “junk,” or unwanted items.
  6. Artwork must keep its integrity until the project is judged. MSWCD is not responsible for missing/broken artwork.
  7. Artwork must be labeled only with a list of items used and what the artwork is trying to resemble. For example, a Gopher Tortoise made with soda cans and styrofoam. DO NOT PUT NAME, TEACHER, OR GRADE DIRECTLY ON THE ARTWORK.
  8. Please ATTACH your name, grade, and teacher’s name to your artwork separately.
  9. Official entry forms must be completed in full and turned in with the artwork.
  10. Failure to comply with contest rules will result in disqualification. Entries can still be judged; however, no award(s) will be given for disqualified entries.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Entries judged in divisions, based on grade levels: K-1st; 2nd-3rd; 4th-6th; 7th-9th; and 10th-12th, in the following criteria:

  1. Actual Animal Likeness - 40 pts
  2. Design & Composition - 30 pts
  3. Effective Use of Materials - 30 pts

AWARDS

Top three winners in each of the five divisions will receive awards.

  • 1st Place:  $50
  • 2nd Place: $25
  • 3rd Place:  $10

Friday, November 14, 2025, at 4:00 PM.  PLEASE CALL BEFORE DELIVERY.
Deliver artwork to MSWCD; 2710 East Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470

PARTICIPATION

MSWCD reserves the right to display artwork, participants' names, etc. Artwork may be picked up from MSWCD after the contest ends. MSWCD is not responsible for returning or lost/damaged artwork. Earns points towards " Conservationist of the Year".
